There is a parasite that feast on the epidermal waste of dogs and cats alike. They are earmites. Do you have dogs in your home, or do you take care of dogs for others? Then you should be aware of the signs of these pests. They are large enough to be seen most of the time by the naked eye. With a magnifying glass, you could see them easily. You may start to notice if your dog is acting strangely or scratching his ears a lot. If your dog scratches, and sometimes even if he doesn't, he can develop a serious yeast infection. A brownish discharge around your dog's ears can alert you to these dog ear mites. The discharge appears because dog ear mites stimulate the production of ear wax. So if you're noticing a build up, it may be time to get your dog checked out. If you want to see for sure if your dog has ear mites, get a cotton swab and very gently wipe up some of the wax in your dog's ear. Examine this wax under a magnifying glass and you can easily tell if there are mites living in your dog's ear. It is very important to get your dog treated right away if he has ear mites. Your dog's life will be made absolutely miserable by these creatures. Worse still, they can endanger your dog's life. They can cause rupturing of the ear drum, seizure, and death. As adults, they are quite mobile and can easily spread from one animal to the other. If your dog has them, your other pets may have them too. Make sure that you check any other animals for signs of ear mites as well.
