Hooked on WoW!

By: John Doe

World Of Warcraft / WoW Gold Guides!

I had been hearing a lot of “great” things about World of Warcraft for the past few months. However, I feel that opinions of other mmorpg players shouldn’t be taken for gospel simply because they’ll always rave about whatever game their currently playing and most mmorpg players hate the games that they don’t participate in. So, faced with this dilemma I had to wait until the Stress Test to really form an opinion for myself. So in preparation the Stress Test I cleared my social schedule for the next week (which isn’t too hard if you don’t have too much of a life) and put GameAmp on auto-run while I tried my hands at World of Warcraft.

Upon receiving a tip from my good friend Trex (or known as xTrex in beta), I was told to start in the Dwarf land, simply because it would be the least populated land for the first few days of the Stress Test. He was right, and aside from being surrounded by characters that looked like mentally challenged children (more commonly known as Gnomes), I could easily go about my questing without too much interference from the masses.

Addiction is a common problem I have in mmorpgs and WoW was no exception. About 8 hours later I logged off as I had brought my Dwarf Rogue up to level 9 and moved on to the new land. The next day I’ll be damned if I didn’t wake up and get side tracked on the way to the shower to start yet another character and play through another 4 hours. This pattern continued and a few days later I woke up one morning to find that I had 4 characters levels 9-16, my lawn was growing pretty tall and my wife was making fun of me far more than usual about my gaming habits. I was hooked, and hooked bad.

Thankfully the Stress Test was ending soon and I could get my life back, or so I thought… Nooo, not an Extension! As any responsible man would realize that even though there was an extension, that doesn’t mean he should neglect his chores, his job and his wife. Fortunately, I’m not a responsible man so I raged on into the Stress Test. I even found myself logging on Sunday at noon to find that the servers were still up past the point of extension. Now why would I spend 4 or 5 hours skinning and making quality leather products that I would only sell at a vendor to make money before the Stress Test ends in a handful of hours? Why would I invest that time into something that nobody (including myself) could take advantage of the next day? I have no utter clue, but that sure as hell didn’t stop me.

At the end of the Stress Test, of course I had to test my login to make sure my Stress Test account had not been switched to a Closed Beta account by accident. It was not and since I was still in WoW mode, I sat at my computer thinking “Well what the hell do I do now?” Quitting cold turkey always sucks, so I hit the fansites and beta forums to see what else I could learn about the game in hopes that by some stroke of luck that all Human Rogues above level 16 on the Norgannon server were somehow unanimously disqualified from the contest because of some unknown factor (ie: they weren’t me) and I was awarded with an email on how I could login to my new Closed Beta Account. Of course my Email Inbox mocked me with emails from friends in Beta that said: “So how far did you get before your account got disabled?”

Tis a cruel world without WoW and I need my fix. There are many reasons why people say “great” things about the game, but rather then mention them here I figured I’d just mention how miserable I am without my WoW. Ironically enough, my wife didn’t seem to mind the ending of the Stress Test, imagine that.
