The Land Of The Sun

I'm sure you've heard of the land of the free, but the phrase "land of the sun" is a lot less common. Or at least, you'd think so. Strangely enough, a lot of people are familiar with the area. Certainly more then you would expect. Costa del Sol, whose name translates as "coast of the sun", is a very popular retirement and holiday destination.

If you are planning on buying a holiday home, or just taking a vacation, the sun-lit shores of Spain is the perfect location for you. Usually, when looking to buy a holiday property, there is some negative factor to be considered. Maybe the locals are unfriendly, or the area is the frequent target of earthquakes or hurricanes. Not the sunny shores of Spain though.

Any holiday activity you might be interested in is available, from lounging on the beach to a night at a theatre. In fact, if the beach is really what you want, you might consider going in the winter- it never really gets cold, but there are a lot less tourists to contend with. Certainly you'll never see any snow. Unless, that is, you want to... then you can head to one of the nearby mountains, for whatever snow sport you wish.

Of course, there is a downside to this. After all, nothing is perfect. The big problem with Spain, is that once there, you might never want to go back... your old life seeming drab and boring by comparison. The capital of Costa del Sol is one of the worlds largest centers of art and culture, while the city of Marbella holds a huge array of entertainment venues such as theatres.

Besides the more usual, laid back holiday activities you can find in almost any other country, Costa del Sol also offers you a wide selection of more exciting things to do. I've already mentioned the mountains, which are not only known for the excellent skiing they offer, but are also a great place for hang gliding, mountain biking, or just hiking through the forest.

Closer to the ocean, you can go horseback riding, tour the safari parks and zoos, or spend the day at Tivoli World- one of the biggest fun parks in Spain, and something you're inner child will never forgive you for missing! Not only this, but the Costa del Sol is host to over 50 golf courses, some of the best in the world. If safari isn't your thing, then you might be interested in playing on some of the worlds most beautiful greens.

When you get to the shore, you'll find every water sport you could ever want is there for you to try. Although, I really don't think that swimming with dolphins qualifies as a sport as such, there is certainly a lot of variety. I advise, if you haven't done it before, you take the chance to sample scuba diving. It is well worth the effort.

If you take only one holiday in your life, and want to be assured it will be a good one, then Spain is for you. Spain, and the glorious Costa del Sol, which can now be reached via a single flight from any major city. Property there is selling fast, so now is the time to buy- either for a holiday home, or as an investment, for the price is sure to rise.
